CUEAFS invites you to an exclusive screening of the genre bending triad film ‘Run Papa Run’ (2008, Hong Kong).
Directed with style and panache by Sylvia Chang, ‘Run Papa Run’ boldly shifts between genres, part comedy, part melodrama, part gangster thriller, the film contains recognisable commercial genre tropes, but ultimately aspires to being more than just a popcorn movie.
Starring Louis Koo as troubled Triad gang leader Tin Yun, as he desperatley attempts to conceal his criminal identity from his young daughter. ‘Run Papa Run’ screened internationally at both the Udine and Venice Film Festivals.
“Actress-director Sylvia Chang pulls out a new bag of tricks filled with vibrant animated sequences, wacky production design, a racy tempo and even cheeky first-person address to audience.” (HollywoodReporter.com)
Please note:
Open film screenings from the CUEAFS are extremely limited next term!

“This sumptuous-looking item purports to examine the forgotten lives of Korean court women (the original title translates literally as “palace women”), but basically it’s a sophisticated whodunit whose temporal tricks sometimes dazzle, sometimes baffle.” (Variety.com)
